A Little Handmade Advent Goodness!

Good morning!  I'm on a bloggin' roll right now!  Two days in a row and BOTH are projects I made for Christmas!  Boy have I caught the holiday bug or what?!  There is definitely no "BAH HUMBUG!" in my house.  However, there are some REALLY AWESOME decorations, including this cool advent garland I made!

That's right!  I MADE THIS!

Advent Garland

I actually MADE the sacks and even sewed them on my handy dandy sewing machine.  Anyone who knows me, knows that I hate sewing!  I will avoid it if I can.  I even put off doing this project for at least a week because of my "minor" aversion to sewing and cutting fabric and all that seamstress hullabaloo.

I used some muslin fabric I had on hand.  I drew my template onto a piece of cardboard and used that as my pattern.  Once I sewed the seams of the sacks, I sprayed them with Tattered Angels glimmer mist in "Iridescent Gold".

Now, I had a minor heart attack when I thought I didn't have any holiday papers.  I went and double checked and found that I had Echo Park's "Merry Christmas" line from last year.  I thought they were the perfect style and the right color palette to go along with the muslin.

Most of the embellishments I used were fussycut from a couple of the patterned papers.  I accented them using fabulous baker's twine from The Twinery, flowers and rhinestones from Gauche Alchemy color kits, and numbers from American Crafts Thickers.

Some more detail close ups

I stuffed my little bags with some raffetta and let some of stick out of the tops.  The bags are tied closed and attached to my hemp cord using some more fabulous Twinery twine.

You gotta end with the Big Man himself!  Ho Ho Ho!

This garland was super easy to make.  You can also fill the bags with little goodies for the kiddos to open up as well!

I hope you and yours have a wonderful holiday season!
